But please do not post/repost/reblog any wedding photos of Mark and Ian.  I know that everyone means well, however Ian has stated on his twitter that he does not want these private pictures to be circulating.  Please respect his wishes.

I don’t know who Mark and Ian are, or what this situation is at all, but I have one question. If they’re private photos, why were they put anywhere on the internet in the first place?

Mark Gatiss and Ian Hallard, famous actors.  They had a professional photographer photograph their wedding, and the photographer (likely to use their fame to promote his business or simply because they were really fantastic photos), put said photos up on his professional website.  At some point he removed them, but before he did a bunch of fans downloaded them and have been passing them around tumblr.  Mark hasn’t said anything about it but Ian has expressed, via his twitter, that he does not want these photographs being passed around.

On a similar vein, photographs of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman with Martin’s children were taken by a fan during filming of Sherlock, and these have made the rounds on tumblr a few times.  Amanda Abbington (the mum) has said on her twitter and in an interview with the Baker Street Babes that she does not want these photographs circulating.  There is also a video of Benedict dancing to “Thriller” at a friend’s wedding and other personal photos that were downloaded from his ex-girlfriend’s Facebook when she didn’t have it locked up as tightly as it should have been - she’s asked that people not circulate this.

Similarly, a “fan” took personal family photos from Tom Hiddleston’s facebook, which  wasn’t locked as tightly as he thought it was, and posted them on tumblr.  I haven’t seen these circulating because I think some savvy fans realized what it was that she was doing and got her tumblr shut down.  The facebook was locked down but has since been deleted.

So, just generally speaking, it is not okay to post or circulate any personal photographs or videos of any famous person.  If you’re really a ‘fan’ you would respect their right to privacy.  If you’re not sure whether or not a video or photo is a public photo or a personal one, just don’t repost it.  It’s that simple.
